“The term “conservation” often means preserving something in its original state, but it also has another definition: the sustainable use of resources. It implies that while some parts of a resource can be used for benefit, the resource itself should remain intact. The key is to understand the regeneration rate of that resource so we can use only what is renewed. This is what we call ‘wise use.’
However, some misuse the term by exploiting resources without considering their other values beyond economic gain. They only focus on maximizing the utilization of those resources.
What I always emphasize is this: even if we leave a forest untouched, it is a form of conservation from which we benefit. Trees, for instance, provide us with air and water. This is a form of use, isn’t it? We benefit without having to cut down or remove any part of it.”
